Confirmation level: everything in the table below is stated in an official Bellring Games post on the Mistfall Hunter Steam news feed, read in full 2026-08-22. Nothing here is community-measured. No damage numbers, cooldowns, or stat values are quoted, because the developer has never published any.
Mistfall Hunter has six classes. Most of them have two weapon branches, and the branch changes the class more than the class name suggests — the developer treats “Mercenary — Sword and Shield” and “Mercenary — Hammer” as separate balance subjects with separate patch-note sections. Pick the branch, not just the class.
The roster as it stands on 23 August 2026
| Class | Weapon branches live now | What the developer says it is for | Stated balance position (DevNote #8, 20 Aug) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mercenary | Sword & Shield; Hammer | Sword & Shield revolves around Deflect and Perfect Parry; Hammer is deliberately slow with “devastating power” | Both Sword & Shield builds described as “currently overperforming”; Red Shield’s post-Perfect-Parry Deflect singled out. Hammer said to be performing in line with expectations, possibly slightly over |
| Withered Knight | Greatsword; Polearm & Shield | Retains the Wither and Execute systems on both branches. Polearm & Shield adds reach, charge-while-blocking, and long-range rescue of downed teammates | Polearm & Shield “Quick Shield Bash” performing as expected; the “Enhanced Shield Bash” path underperforming, with significant changes flagged for Season 2 |
| Shadowstrix | Dagger; Dual Blades | Agility, sneak attacks, cunning; the developer explicitly endorses “hatchet-running” (skipping fights to loot fast) as a valid identity | Map mobility plus front-line strength called too much at once; Super Armor from several talents described as a likely removal target |
| Sorcerer | Staff — Elemental; Staff — Stardust | Elemental leans on Fire/Ice/Lightning chains; Stardust is the alternate spell school | Named alongside Blackarrow as having a very high skill ceiling and strong initiation plus safe kiting; ranged burst already being nerfed |
| Blackarrow | Bow (Archer path; Hunter path) | Ranged specialist; Archer rewards fully charged shots, Hunter rewards high-frequency hits | Same ranged-class note as Sorcerer. Solo-mode PvP damage multiplier was reduced on 12 August; PvE damage unchanged |
| Seer | Catalyst (Reverent); Mace (Blasphemer) | Catalyst is the support/kiting side — shields, concealment, healing runes. Mace is the aggressive Blasphemer side | Catalyst damage acknowledged as weak but left alone because kiting compensates; Mace long-distance disengage was toned down pre-launch |
Announced but not playable yet
Two weapons are officially confirmed to exist as work in progress, and neither has a date:
- Javelin (Blackarrow’s second weapon) — DevNote #8 says it is “currently in full production” and shows concept art only. No skills, no timing.
- Sorcerer’s second weapon — Dev Team FAQ #2 says development had already begun and that it plays “closer in gameplay to the Blasphemer.” Nothing else has been published.
Treat both as unavailable when you pick a class today. If you want the Sorcerer’s alternate playstyle, you are waiting an unknown length of time for it.
Reading the balance column honestly
The right-hand column is the developer’s own language, not a tier list. That distinction matters more than usual here, because the game is under four weeks old and the studio has said twice — in the 6 August patch notes and again in DevNote #8 — that a class going unmentioned in a patch does not mean it is considered balanced, only that it is still under review.
What you can safely take from it as a beginner:
- If you want the shortest path to being effective, the Sword & Shield Mercenary and the ranged pair (Blackarrow, Sorcerer) are the ones the developer has publicly described as currently strong. They are also the ones most likely to be nerfed next, and both ranged classes already have been.
- If you want the most stable pick, Hammer Mercenary and the Quick Shield Bash Withered Knight are the two branches the developer describes as landing where it intended.
- Avoid the Enhanced Shield Bash Withered Knight path for now — it is the only build the studio has explicitly labelled underperforming with a fix deferred to Season 2.
- Do not pick Shadowstrix expecting to both outrun everyone and win head-on fights. The developer has said in plain language that it intends to keep the mobility and remove some of the Super Armor.
What is not confirmed, and where people get it wrong
There is no official published list of per-class stats, skill damage values, energy costs, or cooldown lengths. The patch notes on 12 and 19 August are written with the skill names redacted in the Steam news feed text, so even the direction of a change is often visible while the subject is not. Any tier list you find right now that quotes exact numbers is either datamined or invented — the studio has published neither.
Also not confirmed: whether classes are locked behind progression. What is confirmed, from the AMA, is that multiple players of the same class can team up, that class options are described by the developer as “rather limited” at present, and that character progression per class “requires a meaningful investment” — which is the studio’s stated reason for not restricting duplicate classes in a trio yet.
One more practical note that bites new players: the developer confirmed all characters on the same account already share the same storage, but the friends list was not shared across characters at the time of Dev Team FAQ #2, with a fix listed as “under development.” Check that before you reroll a class.
