Mistfall Hunter: 17% in Russian, 59% in Portuguese

Mistfall Hunter News 7 min read

Data basis: eight per-language pulls from Steam’s public appreviews endpoint (appid 3282300), 100 reviews each, read 2026-08-27, plus deeper 200-review Russian and Brazilian Portuguese pulls. Topic classification uses a Russian keyword set and is reported for the Russian pull only — see Method.

Mistfall Hunter by language Positive rate, 100 reviews per language, read 2026-08-27 Portuguese (BR) 59% Chinese (Simpl.) 54% German 44% French 44% Japanese 39% Korean 37% English 34% Russian 17% The only game here where English sits near the bottom, and Chinese near the top.

The ordering is upside down

In every other game measured with this method, Simplified Chinese sits at or near the bottom and English near the top. Mistfall Hunter reverses both: Chinese is second-highest at 54%, English is second-lowest at 34%, and Russian is last at 17%.

The spread is 42 points between Brazilian Portuguese (59%) and Russian (17%) — third-widest of the six games in the language map, and the only one where the ordering does not follow the usual pattern.

That inversion is the reason this game is worth a separate look. A theory that says “some review cultures are harsher” cannot produce a Chinese figure 20 points above English here and 44 points below it in Project Zomboid. Whatever is happening is about the game, not the reviewers.

The Russian corpus is about connection quality

What the Russian-language negatives are about Mistfall Hunter, 160 negative reviews from a 200-review Russian pull Servers / performance 41% (65 of 160) Balance 27% (43 of 160) Cheating 14% (23 of 160) Seasons / updates 6% (10 of 160) Price 4% (7 of 160) Russian keyword set. Topic analysis is not run on the Portuguese pull — see Method.

Of 160 negative Russian reviews, 41% mention servers, optimisation, lag or connection drops — the highest single-topic concentration in any pull on this site. Balance follows at 27%, cheating at 14%.

One 2-hour reviewer sums up the shape of it: the game is good, but playing it takes a sack of patience because the connection keeps dropping. A 117-hour reviewer opens by calling the genre interesting and the characters varied — then turns to the hub’s implementation. These are not drive-by reviews; the complaint is specific and it is infrastructure.

That matches what the English-language breakdown found — performance leads there too, at 43% of negatives — and the studio has been shipping against it, including a server stutter optimisation update on 15 August. What the language split adds is that the same problem is not landing evenly.

What this is useful for

  • Choosing whether to play now: the complaint is connection quality, which depends on where you connect from. The 42-point spread is a rough map of where that is currently worst.
  • Reading the aggregate: no language here clears 60%, so the spread does not hide a happy community. It shows degrees of unhappiness. That matches the playtime finding that no band clears 50%.
  • Judging the studio’s response: the patches target the right thing. Whether they worked is not answerable from a single-day read.

Method, and its limits

Rates are positive over total per pull — language-neutral and reproducible.

Topic analysis is reported for Russian only. A validated keyword set exists here for English, Simplified Chinese and Russian. The Portuguese pull was read but not classified, because running a keyword set built for other languages over Portuguese text produces near-zero matches — which would look like “Brazilian players do not complain about servers” when it means the method did not look. Reading the Portuguese negatives by hand, server and balance complaints are plainly present; that is an observation, not a measurement, and it is not charted above.

What could not be confirmed

  • Why Chinese-language reviews sit above English here and far below it elsewhere.
  • Whether the 15 August stutter update moved any language’s figure. No before-window is retrievable from the endpoint.
  • Whether language maps to server region. Strongly suggested by the complaint text, not measured.
  • Portuguese topic rates, for the reason given under Method.
