Data basis: 1,200 English-language Mistfall Hunter reviews from Steam’s public appreviews
endpoint (appid 3282300), read 2026-08-27, most recent first. They span 14–26 August 2026.
Playtime is the reviewer’s own recorded figure at review time. This is one twelve-day window, not
the game’s lifetime score.
Most games on this site have a comfortable review score and an interesting shape underneath it. Mistfall Hunter is the other case: 43% of this sample is positive, and splitting by playtime does not turn up a happy cohort hiding inside the average.
Every band is under half
The shape is a low, flat arch. Reviews from under two hours sit at 14% — expected, since that band is mostly refunds. It climbs to 35% at 2–10 hours and reaches its high point of 48% at 10–50 hours. Then it goes back down: 44% at 50–200 hours, and 34% at 200–1,000 hours.
The peak is the part worth sitting with. In most games the 10–50 hour band is where people are still learning and ratings are middling. Here it is the best the game does — and it still does not clear half.
The 200–1,000 hour band matters for a different reason. Those 85 reviewers have put serious time in; they are not people who bounced off. Two thirds of them are still voting the game down.
Performance is the complaint, not balance
43% of negative reviews mention performance, servers, lag, stutter or crashes — more than any other topic by fifteen points. Balance follows at 28%, bugs at 17%.
The comparison column is what makes this readable. Performance also appears in 19% of positive reviews, which is unusual: people recommending the game are bringing it up too, generally as a caveat attached to a thumbs-up. When a topic shows up in one in five positive reviews, it has stopped being a complaint and become a shared condition.
Bugs behave the opposite way — 17% of negatives against 5% of positives, a clean three-to-one split. That is a complaint.
Method: keyword matching, not human coding. A review saying “servers are finally stable” and one saying “servers are unplayable” both land in the performance bucket. One review can match several topics. Counts are reproducible from the same endpoint; the reading is ours.
The developers are shipping against exactly this
This is not a case of a studio ignoring the feed. Between 7 and 21 August the official Steam announcements include a server stutter optimisation update, two separate fair-play penalty announcements, and dated live updates on 7, 12 and 19 August — a cadence tracked in more detail in Mistfall Hunter’s first three weeks.
What this sample cannot tell you is whether those fixes moved the number, because the window opens on 14 August and closes on 26 August — it is mostly after the stutter patch, with no comparable before-window available from the same endpoint. Steam returns recent reviews, not historical slices.
What this is useful for
- Deciding whether to buy now: the 2–10 hour band, the closest proxy for a first sitting, sits at 35%. That is the number that applies to you, not the store’s aggregate.
- Deciding whether to keep playing: approval falls after 50 hours in this sample. If you are enjoying it at 30 hours, that is the peak of the curve rather than the start of one.
- Judging the patch cadence: the studio is shipping frequently against the right target. This sample sets a baseline to re-measure against, not a verdict on whether it worked.
- Reading the store page: a single percentage cannot tell you that the most-invested cohort is the least satisfied. Here it is, and that is the opposite of the usual pattern — Songs of Syx and X4 both climb with hours instead.
What could not be confirmed
- Whether the 15 August stutter patch improved sentiment. No before-window is retrievable from the endpoint, so no comparison is possible.
- What “performance” means per review — server-side stutter, client frame rate and connection drops all match the same keywords and were not separated.
- Console sentiment. A PS5 review appears in the same announcement feed; this dataset is Steam only.
- Non-English reviews, which were excluded and could shift every figure here.
- Lifetime score. This is a twelve-day window; the all-time figure is not what is measured above.
