Path of Glory unlocks when your character hits Level 6, and you choose whether to enable it before each match. The setting is per team member, so one person in a trio can be running ranked while the other two are not. Enabling it does not change matchmaking.
That last point is the one worth internalising: turning ranked on does not put you in a harder lobby. It only changes whether the match settles into rank points. Below Fateweaver I there is no reason to leave it off other than not wanting the score.
The seven tiers
| # | Tier | Notes confirmed by the developer |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Duskborn | Entry tier once Path of Glory unlocks at character Level 6 |
| 2 | Mistwalker | Milestone rewards are claimable each time you advance a major tier |
| 3 | Dawnseeker | Point-earning actions vary by your current tier |
| 4 | Fateweaver | Hard gate: on reaching Fateweaver I, Normal difficulty stops granting rank points |
| 5 | Oracle | Higher tiers unlock exclusive cosmetic rewards |
| 6 | Exalted | — |
| 7 | Zenith | Top tier. The server-wide leaderboard additionally shows exact point totals for Zenith players |
How points move
- You gain points from successful extraction, defeating monsters, completing tasks, and acquiring assets, awarded at match settlement.
- You lose points only for failing to extract. Dying is not itself the penalty condition as described — not getting out is.
- There is a per-match earning cap. The developer states a maximum you can earn in a single match. The actual value has never been published.
- Which actions pay varies by tier. Also unquantified. Assume the mix shifts away from easy PvE income as you climb.
A separate Server-Wide Points Leaderboard ranks accounts by total accumulated points. It picks your main class automatically as the class with the longest playtime on the account, and shows the character nickname with the highest playtime under that class — so if you dabble across classes, the leaderboard will pick for you.
The decision, in order
- Below Level 6? Ranked does not exist for you yet. Play whatever you like.
- Just hit Level 6? Turn it on. Matchmaking is unaffected, and you start banking milestone rewards from the first tier.
- In a trio where someone does not want it? Fine — the toggle is individual, so nobody has to agree.
- Approaching Fateweaver? This is where the decision becomes real. From Fateweaver I, Normal difficulty matches grant nothing, and you have to move into higher-difficulty modes to keep climbing.
- Not comfortable above Normal yet? Then stop climbing deliberately rather than grinding Normal for points that will not arrive. Fateweaver is the point at which the ladder starts demanding PvE capability you may not have.
What Fateweaver I actually costs you
Higher difficulty is not a cosmetic label in this game. The developer has confirmed in the AMA that the most common way to obtain top-tier gear is defeating Mist Lords on Cataclysm difficulty, which “inherently requires strong PvE capabilities,” and has described Brandrgarde on Cataclysm as a place where elite mobs are tougher and top-tier rare loot drops broadly. Cataclysm is where the ladder pushes you, and it is gear-and-skill gated in practice.
There is also a mode-availability wrinkle a new solo player should know. Solo Mode for Brandrgarde — on both Normal and Cataclysm — was confirmed on 5 August as arriving in the middle of Season 1, in September. Until that ships, your Brandrgarde options are the ones already in the build. If you climb into Fateweaver as a solo player before then, check what higher-difficulty modes you can actually queue for.
What is not confirmed
- Point values for any action, at any tier.
- The per-match earning cap.
- How many points separate tiers, or whether there are sub-divisions beyond the “Fateweaver I” naming implying numbered steps within a tier.
- Whether rank resets at season end. DevNote #8’s partial-reset framework names character levels, warehouse supplies, and select camp buildings as things that reset, and long-term progression such as the Collection Pedestal as carrying over. Rank is not named in either list. Do not assume either way.
Season length is planned at three to four months per the AMA, so the reset question will matter sooner than it feels like it should. Ranked also runs on top of a live PvP environment that the studio is actively policing — the fair play penalty tracker covers what gets you removed from it, including the teaming rules that apply in trios. And because the ranked system replaced the entire beta-era leaderboard set at launch, it is worth checking the roadmap versus delivered tracker for which parts of the launch feature list shipped as described.
