Tour Irons — Who Discloses? — The real story is who publishes what

In an earlier piece on TaylorMade’s P7MC, we called it “the only model that discloses every number” — and within TaylorMade’s own lineup, that holds.

Opening the official spec sheets of rival tour irons changed the picture. Some brands disclose more than P7MC does. Some cut it down to three lines: loft, lie, length. And TaylorMade itself disclosed less in P7MC’s own successor.

1. First — what counts as a “peer”?

What Counts as a Peer Here — a forged cavity-back with almost no forgiveness tech, a compact tour head. Mizuno Pro S-3 (2025) is included only in the offset table — vintages here span 2019-2025, not a same-year comparison. P7CB took P7MC’s place in the current lineup.

The standard here is “a forged cavity-back with almost no forgiveness technology built in — a compact tour head.”

  • Titleist 620 CB — released 2019, still on sale today. It’s outlasted everything else in this slot.
  • PING Blueprint S — current 2024 model. Fully forged 8620 carbon steel, patented pocket forging on the 3–5 irons.
  • Srixon ZXi7 — successor to the ZX7 Mk II. Single-piece forged S15C, described by the manufacturer as its softest forging material.
  • Mizuno Pro S-3 — 2025 signature model. Included in the same slot for the offset comparison table.

One correction first: P7MC is currently absent from TaylorMade’s US official iron lineup. The models on that list are P790, P770, P7CB, P7MB, and P7TW. P7CB effectively took MC’s place.

And there’s an asymmetry in this comparison that can’t be hidden. P7MC is a 2nd-generation 2023 model, while PING Blueprint S is a 2024 model and Mizuno Pro S-3 is a 2025 model. In other words, the table below overlays clubs of different vintages. Each brand’s current model is compared to the others’ current models — not products released the same year. Reading this table with that in mind matters.

2. Even among tour irons, loft spreads 3 degrees

At the 7-iron:

  • Titleist 620 CB — 35°
  • TaylorMade P7MC — 34°
  • PING Blueprint S — 33°
  • Srixon ZXi7 — 32°

A 3-degree spread. Line that up next to P770 (33°) and ZXi7 (32°) from a separate piece, and the loft ranges for “distance-oriented compact irons” and “tour forged cavity-backs” overlap. Category names and angles are separate things.

3. Offset — align the units and it shows

7-Iron Offset, Units Aligned to mm — inches converted to mm (x25.4) so units are comparable. Looked at one club, they look similar; across the whole set (4i-PW) the offset drop ranges from 3.3mm (Blueprint S) to 0.6mm (Pro S-3).

This is the core of this piece.

Offset is published in different units by different brands. TaylorMade and Srixon use millimeters; PING and Mizuno use inches. Different units make comparison invisible to the eye, so inch values here were multiplied by 25.4 to convert everything to millimeters.

At the 7-iron, lined up:

  • PING Blueprint S — approximately 2.0mm
  • TaylorMade P7MC — 2.1mm
  • Srixon ZXi7 — 2.8mm
  • Mizuno Pro S-3 — approximately 2.9mm
  • Titleist 620 CB — not disclosed

Looked at one club at a time, they all look similar. Looked at across the whole set, they’re completely different.

4. The point this piece really wants to make

Measuring how much offset shrinks from the 4-iron to the PW shows the character of each set.

  • PING Blueprint S — 3.8mm down to 0.5mm, a 3.3mm drop
  • Srixon ZXi7 — 3.5mm down to 1.7mm, a 1.8mm drop
  • TaylorMade P7MC — 2.7mm down to 1.5mm, a 1.2mm drop
  • Mizuno Pro S-3 — 3.2mm down to 2.6mm, a 0.6mm drop

Same “tour forged cavity-back” category, and the design spread is more than five times apart.

What does this mean? Offset is how far behind the shaft the face sits. More offset gives the club more time to square up, making it easier to launch the ball high; less offset gives a sharper sense of hands leading the clubhead.

PING gives long irons a large offset and strips it down to almost zero on short irons — a design that changes character sharply club to club. Mizuno S-3 is the opposite. Offset barely changes from the 4-iron to the PW. The whole set is built to feel consistent.

Neither is better. This is a matter of preference — and more importantly, it’s a difference no catalog skim would ever reveal. It wasn’t visible to us either until the units were aligned into one table.

5. Who actually publishes the numbers

Who Actually Publishes the Numbers — loft, lie, and length are shared by all six models. TaylorMade disclosed offset in mm for P7MC — its successor P7CB has no offset field at all.

Putting it together, the table itself became a conclusion. Not about performance — about whether the manufacturer wrote the number on the spec sheet at all.

Offset is where it splits. PING, Srixon, Mizuno, and P7MC disclose it. Titleist doesn’t. Titleist explains in words that offset was “reduced,” but gives no number.

Go to bounce, and only PING is left.

Blade length is disclosed by none of the six. Titleist calls it “progressive blade length,” Srixon calls it “a short blade” — words, not numbers. Blade length is the first thing your eye catches at address, and not one brand puts a figure to it.

And there’s one more thing worth noting. TaylorMade published offset in millimeters on P7MC’s spec sheet — and the model that took its place, P7CB, has no offset field at all. What was once disclosed was withdrawn in the successor.

6. Where the four models sit

7. Who this comparison is useful for

A judgment framework drawn from the confirmed differences among the four models.

  • Golfers who want offset numbers to gauge workability — PING, Srixon, Mizuno, and P7MC all disclose it, but Titleist 620 CB doesn’t, so 620 CB can’t be compared on this axis.
  • Golfers who want that “hands-ahead” feel from offset shrinking sharply from 4-iron to PW — Blueprint S (3.3mm drop) and ZXi7 (1.8mm) lean that direction.
  • Golfers who want the whole set to feel consistent — Pro S-3’s small 0.6mm drop keeps set character more uniform.

This may not fit:

  • Golfers who assume tour irons all run similar loft — from the 620 CB’s 35° down to ZXi7’s 32° is a 3° spread at the 7-iron.
  • Golfers who want to compare fine detail via blade length or bounce — blade length is undisclosed across all six, and bounce is undisclosed by everyone except PING.

8. What we could not confirm

  • Titleist 620 CB’s offset — no field on the official spec sheet.
  • Bounce for P7MC, 620 CB, ZXi7, and Pro S-3 — only PING discloses it.
  • Blade length across all six models — none disclose it.
  • The generation basis for P7MC — it’s a 2023, 2nd-generation model, confirmed in an earlier piece, but TaylorMade’s own official product page carries no generation label. Two live pages show identical loft, lie, offset, and length, so the figures above hold regardless of which page is checked.
  • Mizuno and Srixon’s listed length convention — both companies have stated their published lengths grew by roughly a quarter-inch following a measurement-standard change. Cross-brand length comparisons need to account for that.
  • Measured carry distance and feel — not quantifiable, so not included.

In one line

Even among tour irons, 7-iron loft spreads 3 degrees, and offset design spread differs by more than five times over. The name “tour iron” doesn’t tell you the character.

And what lingered longest from this comparison wasn’t the numbers — it was the blanks. Some brands publish offset and bounce down to the last field; some stop at three lines. Nobody publishes blade length. Whatever isn’t on the spec sheet, you’re left to check in person.

Every chart here was built directly, and every number comes from each manufacturer’s official spec sheet. Values published in inches were converted to millimeters by multiplying by 25.4. Anything we could not confirm was left blank.
